Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

I am a great fan of Nigella Lawson and I love watching her cook as she always make it seem so easy and simple whatever the recipe so I was awe-inspired when I saw an episode of her making loads of chocolate desserts. It is enough to make me drool!

So, I went around searching for one of her absolutely delicious recipes and found this:

Nigella Lawson’s Honey Chocolate Cake Recipe with a Honey Glaze

Now, that’s what I call a chocolate dream come true! So, here are the ingredients needed to make this absolutely sinful delicious dessert for honey and chocolate lovers:

115g cooking chocolate, broken into small pieces

1 1/3 cups soft brown sugar

226g softened unsalted butter

1/2 cup honey

2 eggs

1 1/2 cups plain flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 tablespoon cocoa powder

1 cup boiling water

Here are the steps you will need to take to turn all these raw ingredients into a wonderful honey chocolate cake:
First you set a pan of water over medium heat until boiling. Then you place the chocolate in a heatproof bowl and place the bowl over the pan of boiling water. This is so that the chocolate will not burnt as you melt it over the boiling water. Once it is completely melted, set it aside for it to cool. Alternatively, you can also place the chocolate in a bowl and microwave it high for two minutes .

Grease a 9 inch cake pan with butter or cooking spray and line it with wax paper. Then preheat the oven to 180 degree Celsius.

In a bowl, sift the flour, baking soda and cocoa together.

In another mixing bowl, using a hand mixer to beat the sugar and butter together until it is creamy and almost white. Then you pour in the honey and mix well. Add the eggs one at a time and alternate it with a spoonful of the flour mixture.

Fold in the melted chocolate and then fold in the flour mixture. Then, you pour in the boiling water before you mix it all together to come up with a smooth, creamy batter. Pour the batter into the cake pan and bake at 180 degree Celsius for up to an hour.

The cake is done when you insert a skewer into the centre of the cake and it comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely in the pan before you invert it onto a cake plate. Now, lets get on to the honey glaze recipe:

These are the ingredients you will need for the honey glaze:

1/4 cup water

1/4 cup honey

170g bittersweet chocolate, broken in small pieces

3/4 cup icing sugar

Here’s how you make the honey glaze:

You place the honey and water in a pan and heat it up to boiling. Then you turn off the heat and add the chocolate. Let the chocolate melt and whisk the mixture. Once it is well combined, sift the icing sugar into the mixture and whisk till well combined.

Let the glaze cool completely and only put it on the cake once the honey chocolate cake is also cooled completely.
